Yesterday, October 13, 2022, I had the good fortune of being invited and able to attend the retirement party for Don Delano at the LA County Fairgrounds. Don has been running the Farm at the fairgrounds for the past 31 years.
Don and his group at the farm are the reason that the HHS Family Farm exists. In the Fall of 2017 Hillside High took a trip to the LA County Fair. At the end of our stay, we were given two hens and told that any of the eggs that were laid were probably fertile. We placed the eggs in an incubator and hatched a couple of chicks. Today our farm has over 40 chickens. Later interactions with the LA County Fair Farm personnel provided us with vegetables to grow on our farm.
