HHS Family Farm Update

We had 4 chicks born over the holiday break.

On December 25th Jesus was born. Then on the 26th we had another chick. And then on December 31st we had two other chicks hatch.  All of the chicks born were from brown eggs suggesting the Brahma as the mom hen. All of the chicks born have dark feathers. Some have black skin and at least one other has the typical orange-ish skin color suggesting at least that the father is the black Silkie.

Citrus Tree list....Sidewalk work

Work continues on the walkways in the garden. Now that the Grant folks have done their work we have an opportunity to do some rework to areas of the garden that were not completed last school year. The items include the widening of one walkway and the extension of another. We also decided to bring back the work table into the garden. Other items include the addition of two four by four raised planter areas and the construction of a bean trellis.

R.I.P. George

On Thursday December 7th we received over 2" of rain that overwhelmed our chicken coop drain. As a result our disabled chicken Silkie George ( a hen) drowned. She had feet issues. Her feet were turned in and she basically walked on the top of her feet.  While all the other chickens were able to find dry land George did not. She was the most loved chicken in the flock. She did everything to stay up with her brothers and sisters that were different breeds and much larger than her. A funeral has been planned for George on Monday at Lunch.
